Philippians 3:1-11
Why are we here? What is our purpose? People have wrestled with questions like this for years. But are we looking in the right places and asking the right questions?
Paul speaks from the experiences of a life dedicated to earning favor with God. His commitment to following the Pharisaic Law gave him a false self-righteousness. In this part of his letter to Philippi, Paul communicates the danger of believing the false teachers. There is nothing that needs to be added to the gospel. Earthly accomplishments and glory achieved for ourselves are worthless. Our purpose is to follow God and become as much like Christ as we can. In doing that, our eternal purpose is secured through the power of Jesus Christ.
